Having someone invested in your welfare, focused on making sure you are mentally prepared for such a big life event, and helping with the day to day afterwards was a real blessing. During labour Ruth really shone. Despite not being able to attend the hospital due to COVID restrictions, I am still so glad I had Ruth support me, and in the over 1 hour car ride to the hospital, I don't think I would have handled that even half as well without her!!! She has magic hands and a calming presence. When I was having a hard time, a chat on the phone really helped to clear my head. If you are thinking of getting a doula I say go for it!!!
